A series of devices used to change or maintain a car's direction of travel or reverse is called a car steering system (steering system). The function of the car steering system is to control the driving direction of the car according to the driver's wishes. Here's how to properly inspect and repair your power steering system.
Inspection of steering gear
(1) Inspection of mechanical steering gear
Check whether the steering pinion and rack are worn or damaged, whether there is crack on the steering gear housing, and note that the parts on the steering gear are not allowed to be welded or corrected, but can only be replaced. Also check the wear and damage of bearings and bushings, as well as the wear and aging of oil seals and dust jackets, and replace them in time.
(2) Inspection of steering damper
Check the travel of the steering damper. The working stroke L should be the difference between the maximum length (Lmax) 556mm and the minimum length (Lmin) 344.5mm, which is 211.5mm. It should be replaced when the stroke is insufficient.
Check the damping force of the steering shock absorber, the maximum damping load is 560N, and the minimum damping load is 180N (carried out on the test bench).
Check the bearings of the steering damper for cracks.
Check the rubber bushing at the end of the steering damper for damage and aging.
(3) Inspection of power steering gear
Check all oil leaks and replace all O-rings and gaskets. If there is a problem with the hydraulic distribution valve, it must be replaced as a whole or the sealing ring on the distribution valve. Check the pinion and rack for damage. Check bearings and oil seals for damage. Check the dust cover for damage and aging. Check the steering gear housing for cracks and oil leaks.
